Deliverable 7.3 Electrical characterisation of LIC modules

Deliverable D7.3 reports the electrical characterization and functional validation of a preliminary 12 V module developed within The MUSIC Project using commercial lithium-ion capacitor cells as a technological analogue for future sodium-ion capacitor cells. The work validates the performance of the innovative Supercapacitor Management System (i-SMS), including sensing, passive balancing, protection mechanisms and thermal management, across different temperatures and current profiles. The results confirm safe module operation within defined limits, demonstrate improved voltage and thermal uniformity, and provide key design lessons for the future MUSIC sodium-ion capacitor module, particularly in relation to mechanical integration, heat dissipation and system-level safety.

The updated MUSIC project trifold provides an overview of the project’s objectives, consortium, and technological roadmap, while reflecting the progress achieved to date. It highlights where MUSIC currently stands along the development pathway — from novel materials and advanced characterisation to electrode prototyping and module-level validation — and illustrates how the project is advancing towards sustainable, high-performance sodium-ion capacitors for energy, industry, and transport applications.

Deliverable D1.4 Data Management Plan #2

This is the first version of the project Data Management Plan (DMP). It contains preliminary information about the data the project will generate, whether and how it will be exploited or made accessible for verification and re-use, and how it will be curated and preserved. The purpose of the Data Management Plan is to provide an outline of the main elements of the data management policy that all consortium partners will have to comply with for all datasets that will be generated by the project.

D2.3 Cell fabrication and module design specifications

The main objective of the deliverable is to provide guidelines for the sustainable manufacturing of sodium ion capacitor cells and the green development of modules. It emphasizes the importance of assessing the sustainability of these devices throughout their entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to manufacturing, use, second use and recycling.

Deliverable D6.2. Production of SIC electrodes (positive and negative)

Deliverable 6.2 marks the completion of production of SIC positive electrodes, comprising sacrificial salt, used for presodiation. The development of an appropriate pre-sodiation strategy will be key to the success of the MUSIC project, as it will determine the successful fabrication of competitive SIC cells that will meet the requirements in Work Package 2 (led by BCARE), which creates technical requirements and specifications [6]. The tasks leading up to the achievement of this deliverable are explained in the following sections.

Deliverable 5.1. Component selection

Deliverable 5.1 focuses on selecting components for sodium-ion capacitors, specifically for railway applications. It details the choice of materials for electrodes, binders, and conductive additives, and outlines the development of eco-friendly electrode fabrication methods. The deliverable also discusses the selection of a pre-sodiation agent and the most suitable aluminum current collector for both negative and positive electrodes, based on their physicochemical and electrochemical properties.
