Vision & Concept
The European MUSIC Project will contribute to the zero-polluting economy by 2050, wide spreading the implementation of renewable energy & aiding electrification of transport and industry, thanks to manufacturing new sustainable sodium-ion capacitors.
PROJECT
Global climate crisis faces the urgent need to limit global warming below 2ºC by 2100. In this scenario, EU gears up to becoming a climate-neutral, circular, and competitive, zero polluting economy by 2050, and resilience is an opportunity to undergo this transition in a sustainable and fair way towards an inclusive and democratic European society.
Electrification of key different sectors such as transport, power, and industry is targeted to avoid greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (e.g., CO2) responsible for the global warming. Energy generation by renewables and its electrochemical storage will be key enabling technologies for such a transformation.
Thus, the EU needs to strengthen its industrial leadership position in these technologies and reinforce autonomy in key strategic value chains with security of supply in raw materials.
OBJECTIVES
Materials for sUstainable Sodium Ion Capacitors (MUSIC) responds to the need for a new supercapacitor technology that reaches energy density comparable to that of power batteries, but still recharges within a few seconds and offers long cycle life with minimum efficiency loss over time for application in renewables, industry and transport.
MUSIC will support Europe, in this sense, on its transition towards a climate-neutral continent by reducing vulnerabilities in the entire EU raw materials value chain by developing a technology that avoids the use of critical raw materials and which is sustainable by design.
MUSIC PROJECT’S IMPACT
The main driving force of MUSIC is transforming Europe in a climate-neutral continent and developing a sustainable economy through transformation of its mobility, energy, and production systems.
The development novel supercapacitor technologies incorporating innovative management systems that stablishes new industrial value chains that can have a significant impact to energy storage solutions for applications ranging from consumer goods to electrification of transport and reduction of emissions will help to achieve the European net-zero emissions objetive by 2050.
